PSH & PLAS: United against CVD

As partners in addressing the growing burden of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in the country, the Philippine Society of Hypertension (PSH) and the Philippine Lipid and Atherosclerotic Society (PLAS) held their 26th Joint Annual Convention last 17–19 February 2021 with the theme “United Front Against CVD: Harnessing Local and Regional Initiatives.”.

Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Convention pressed on and was done completely virtually. This setup provided an advantage, as it allowed high-profile experts to present their discussions wherever they are in the country or the world. Among the topics presented were updates in the management of CVD, hypercholesterolemia, and peripheral artery diseases. It also featured discussions on blood pressure management in special cases, brain health, and new approaches to their treatment.

The Convention successfully delivered engaging and informative discussions despite the challenges that the PSH and PLAS encountered. True to their vision for this year, it mobilized the medical community to come together and continue the fight against CVD and help improve the lives of Filipinos with hypertension.
